A Potter County, Texas Sheriff's deputy collapsed and died during a training exercise on Friday.
Sgt. Paul Buckles became unresponsive after falling ill during active shooter training that he was participating in with members of other area law enforcement agencies, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Medical personnel came to the aid of Buckles and were on the scene as part of the training exercise.
The 57-year-old had been with the agency for 26 years and was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Buckles had numerous commendations, and over 2600 training hours documented.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
