A Philadelphia school police officer died Monday after collapsing inside a school bathroom after breaking up a fight.
Sgt. Daryl Giles was found unresponsive after suffering an apparent medical emergency in a staff bathroom at George Washington High School around noon, according to The Daily News.
The 19-year veteran of the force was transported to Holy Redeemer hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Giles helped break up a fight shortly before he was discovered in the bathroom. Three students were arrested in connection with the fight.
"He was a longtime member of the Washington High School family, and he's really loved by the students and staff, so it's been a tremendous shock to them," district spokesman Fernando Gallard told the newspaper.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
