A Hillsborough County, Fla. Sheriff's deputy is being lauded after he wrestled with an alligator Thursday.
Deputies responded to a call that a horse was attacked in a private pasture with a lake at 19400 Gunn Highway around 8:30 p.m., according to The Tampa Tribune.
Officials say the 6-foot-long alligator bit the hose on the leg. The horse is expected to rover from its injuries.
The deputy called a trapper from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, but was able to secure the alligator on his own.
"We deal with it all the time, especially in recent years as the alligator population is increasing," Larry McKinnon told the newspaper. "It's just a part of living in Florida."
