Louisiana Deputy Stabbed in Head by Suspect

A St. Bernard Parish deputy is recovering after he was stabbed during a confrontation with a man Tuesday afternoon.

A St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana Sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was stabbed during a confrontation with a man Tuesday afternoon.

The deputy was conducting a traffic stop near St. Bernard Highway and Gallo Drive in Chalmette around 2 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to WDSU-TV.

Trooper Evan Harrell told reporters that the encounter escalated when the deputy was stabbed by the man and called for backup. Deputies arrived on the scene and fatally shot the suspect.

The deputy was stabbed in the back of the head and was transported to a hospital in St. Bernard Parish for treatment. He was released later that day with minor injuries.

The incident is currently under investigation.
