Oregon Deputy Recovering After Shooting

A Lane County, Oregon Sheriff's deputy is recovering after being wounded during a shootout on Friday.

Deputy Todd Olson's wife, Greta, said in a statement released Sunday night that her husband is continuing to rest in the hospital and is focused on recovering from his injuries, according to The Register-Guard.

Greta wrote that her family wished "to express our deepest gratitude for all the prayers and well wishes. The outpouring of love and support from the community and various law enforcement agencies has been humbling."

The 18-year veteran of the Lane County Sheriff's Office is recovering at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.

Officials said that 38-year-old Carlos A. Roa was taken into custody more than six hours after he opened fire on deputies as they approached a residence in the 75000 block of London Road around 7:50 p.m.

Roa sustained a gunshot wound from the initial confrontation with deputies and bites from a K-9 that helped apprehend him. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries and is expected to be transferred to the Lane County Jail.

No additional information was provided, including what charges have been filed against Roa.
