Arkansas Officer, Suspect Shot in Shootout

An off-duty Little Rock police officer and a suspect were wounded in an exchange of gunfire at a restaurant Saturday night.

An off-duty police officer in Little Rock, Arkansas and a suspect were wounded in an exchange of gunfire at a restaurant Saturday night.

Officials said that Officer Shawn Bakr was working off-duty at the Red Lobster at Markham Street and Rodney Parham Road when he interrupted a robbery involving three suspects, according to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

Bakr was shot in the shoulder during a shootout with the suspects that occurred both inside and outside the restaurant. He has since been released from a local hospital. A teen suspect was wounded and remained in serious condition at the hospital.

Police arrested a second suspect, identified as 20-year-old Troy Williams, early Sunday morning. Officials said that Williams admitted to shooting the officer.

A third person is also being sought in the incident, though no information about the suspect was released.

Bakr has been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation into the shooting and is expected to make a full recovery.
