Virginia Police Officer Kills Self in Station

Roanoke Police Officer Najee Anthony Tynes was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Wednesday in a restroom in the department's downtown headquarters.

A Roanoke, Virginia police officer shot and killed himself inside the department's downtown headquarters Wednesday evening.

Officer Najee Anthony Tynes was found at 6:29 p.m. in a restroom in the police department on Campbell Avenue, according to The Roanoke Times.

The 29-year-old served with the Roanoke Police Department since August 2011.

Police spokesman Scott Leamon said that an internal review of Tynes death is currently being conducted.

Officials said that counselors have been called in to help officers, staff and dispatchers.

The officers' badges will be shrouded through sundown on the day of Tynes' burial.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
