PALM BEACH, Florida -- A state trooper was seriously injured Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 95, a Florida Highway Patrol official said.

Andy Ong, 51, was outside his patrol car conducting speed enforcement about 10:30 a.m. when he was hit by a vehicle that had lost control after being struck by another car, said Sgt. Mark Wysocky, spokesman for the Florida Highway patrol.

“One car changed lanes and hit a second car,” Wysocky said. “That car flipped into the trooper and his patrol car.”

Police identified Boynton Beach resident Alix Beauplan, 31, as the driver of the first car. His Honda Accord struck a Ford Focus, driven by 27-year-old Palm Springs resident Amanda Winnegar, causing Winnegar’s car to hit Ong.

Rescue crews transported Ong to Delray Medical Center. Beauplan and Winnegar were taken to JFK Medical Center with minor injuries, Wysocky said.

The accident shut down all northbound lanes for several hours at Hypoluxo Road, Wysocky said.

Alcohol was ruled out as a factor in the incident, according to a report from the highway patrol, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
