JEFFERSON CITY, Tennessee -- An early morning wreck in Jefferson City has left one person dead, and three injured, including a Carson-Newman University security guard and one Jefferson City Police Officer.

In a Facebook post Saturday afternoon, Carson-Newman University requested prayer for Lucas Trent, a campus security guard, and Jefferson City Police Sergeant Scott Winstead, who worked on the campus through a contractual partnership between the University and the Police Department.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on Branner Avenue and East King Street, near the university campus. The two were riding together in a vehicle when it was struck by a speeding SUV. One of the people in the SUV died and the other was reportedly injured.

Authorities have not identified either of the SUV's occupants.

The Dandridge Police Department said Jefferson City Police Officer Scott Winstead was seriously injured and flown to UT Medical Center by Lifestar Helicopter for emergency surgery.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
