N.J. Police Officers Help Lift Vehicle Off 87-Year-Old Woman

When Middlesex police officers responded to a report of a traffic accident, they found an injured pedestrian trapped under a vehicle and worked with good Samaritans to lift it off her.

Police officers and good Samaritans lifted a vehicle off of an 87-year-old woman after she was struck Tuesday in Middlesex County, authorities said.

The woman was hit by the vehicle around noon near the Middlesex Post Office on Hawthorne Avenue in Middlesex Borough, according to a statement from police.

Officer Paul Steffanelli, Officer Jamie Marczak and Officer Colin DeVincenzo arrived to find the pedestrian lying in the road, trapped under the vehicle, police said. The officers along with five good Samaritans rushed to lift the vehicle and free the injured woman.

She suffered injuries to her hips and pelvis was taken to a local hospital, authorities said. An update on her condition was not immediately available.

“The quick response of our officers and the selfless efforts of the bystanders brought timely aid to the pedestrian victim,” Middlesex Chief of Police Matthew P. Geist said in a statement.

The chief reminded motorists to be aware of pedestrians and cyclists in the borough. Anyone with information about the strike was asked to call Sgt. Mark Melchiorre at 732-356-1900 ext. 338.
