GROTON, CT — City police said a ball python was found on someone's porch on Tuesday night after the reptile's owner thought it was dead.
Capt. Patricia Lieteau of the City of Groton police said the snake was discovered at around 9:30 p.m. and officers were called to the scene.
The caller was able to get the snake into a box, and officers put the box in the back of a cruiser, according to Lieteau.
Lieteau added that the ball python ended up escaping from the box and got loose in the cruiser. She said a "critter cop" then was called to "retrieve the snake."
Someone who claimed to be the snake's owner came to the department to get their snake, telling police they believed the snake was dead and disposed of it sometime before, Lieteau said. Lieteau said the owner then was "directed to (the) Critter cop."
