Delta police were able to secure a line and hoist a dog to safety after the canine became trapped inside a 15-foot water drain for several days during a flood watch in the area.

Colorado police saved a dog Sunday that had been trapped in a water drain for several days.

Delta police received a report of a dog discovered in a 15-foot water drain while the area was under a flood watch until 6 p.m. Monday, the department stated in an online update. Once officers reached the scene, they were able to secure a line around the dog and hoist the dog out of the drain.

"This could have ended tragically if it wasn’t for the efforts of our officers," the agency stated.

Police are searching for the owner.
