Oct. 24, 2024
When two Virginia State Police troopers responded to a report of a vehicle that drove into a Fairfax County retention pond, they jumped into the water and rescued the driver through the sunroof.

A 40-year-old woman was saved by two Virginia State Police troopers after she crashed into a retention pond Sunday.

The rescue happened at about 9:40 p.m. when troopers received a report of a vehicle that had driven into a retention pond in Fairfax County, the state police stated in an online update. When troopers reached the scene, they discovered a woman still trapped inside the submerged vehicle.

The troopers jumped into the pond and waded through the water to reach the vehicle. Once at the vehicle, they were able to pull the woman out through the vehicle's sunroof and get her to safety.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, where she was treated. Because of the water's cold temperatures, the two troopers were evaluated at the scene.

The crash is under investigation.
