The Roseville Police Department unloaded a large box and bags of new toys and surprised Michigan State Police troopers for the agency's Stuff a Blue Goose drive.

Talk about surprises.

Members of the Roseville Police Department surprised Michigan State Police troopers who held a Stuff a Blue Goose toy drive Thursday by donating a large box and bags filled with brand new toys.

The toys will be given to kids who have been affected by substance abuse disorders at a Community Christmas Bash on Saturday at Live Rite Structured Resource Center on Gratiot Avenue in Roseville.

“That is awesome,” said Brenda Maks, founder and president of Live Rite as she saw Roseville police officers unload the toys.

According to their website, Live Rite is a start-up nonprofit that helps people seeking recovery from substance abuse problems in Macomb County and Metro Detroit. The organization offers resources such as food, clothing, housing, and job assistance as well as daily meetings and events.

Live Rite is one of the MSP Angel Program’s community partners. State Police have a Stuff a Blue Goose program going on in 33 communities across the state, according to Sgt. Don Stewart of the Community Service Unit.

“Once we learned about what was going on at Live Rite, it was a no brainer for us,” said Roseville Deputy Chief Robert Gudenau.

“Chief (Mitch) Berlin and I decided to put together all these toys we received from Ollie’s Bargain Outlet. We wanted to show how important the community is to us, and Live Rite does this wonderful work. We are honored to have such a strong partnership with MSP and all of our fellow law enforcement agencies.”

At the Community Christmas Bash on Saturday afternoon, invited families will receive a tour of the building, snacks and Christmas treats, and receive a toy for their children. Word is Santa Claus will be transported to the site via helicopter by the U.S. Marine Corps.

About 300 families are expected to attend, organizers said.

“They will celebrate the holiday season with people that really care about them” Stewart said.

“The actions of the Roseville Police Department today shows the good relationship law enforcement agents have around the state of Michigan, and especially the MSP and Roseville have established over the past several years working together to not just fight crime, but working together to prevent crime by allows folks the opportunity to make good decisions.”
