Two good Samaritans and four police officers helped save the life of a child who collapsed in Fairfield on Saturday and stopped breathing, authorities said.
The incident happened just before 4 p.m. at an indoor playground, Kids Empire, located on Route 46 West in town, according to a statement from the Fairfield Police Department.
Fairfield Police Sgt. Brian Sabatelli, Cpl. David Lagan and officers Louis Bisciotti and Daniel Kalinowski arrived on scene and found the two good Samaritans performing CPR on the child, police said.
They took over until medical personnel arrived on scene and took the boy to a local hospital for further treatment, the department said.
As of Monday afternoon, the child’s condition had improved but he still requires additional medical treatment, according to the statement.
Fairfield Police Public Information Officer Stacy Chiarolanza called the rescue “a miracle.”
“The immediate response by the two good Samaritans allowed officers and medical personnel the time to arrive without any delay to the child,” Chiarolanza said. “Performing CPR can be an emotional task, but having to do it on a child is something no one ever wants to do.”
“There’s nothing more to say than this was the absolute best outcome for such a terrible situation,” she added. “We pray for the child and their family and hope for a full recovery.”
A person who answered the phone at Kids Empire declined to speak about the incident.
