ELYRIA, OH — A man managed to call 911 after two armed men broke into a family’s apartment, with responding officers eventually gaining entry and arresting the suspects.
Ramal Sitton, 21, and Johnny Rice, 20, were taken into custody and the scene and now face charges of aggravated burglary, two counts of kidnapping, felonious assault, having weapons under disability, and disrupting public services, police say.
The break-in was reported at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at an apartment on the 800 block of Rosewood Drive. Police say a male who lives in the apartment with his girlfriend and 3-year-old child spotted the two suspects in the apartment through an interior security camera.
Police say the security footage shows the two suspects brandished firearms at the residents and physically assaulted the woman living there. The suspects also are accused of threatening the lives of the family.
Investigators say the two suspects broke in with the intent to steal money and other items.
Responding officers first established a perimeter outside the apartment, but moved in when they learned there was an “immediate threat” to the woman inside. Officers gained entry into the apartment and were able to arrest the two suspects, police say.
Two loaded firearms, a .223-caliber rifle and a 9 mm handgun, were recovered at the scene, police say. Both suspects are being held in the Lorain County Jail without bond.
