Boston Police: Driver Intentionally Struck Officer on Game Traffic Detail

Dec. 26, 2024
The impact of a crash involving an alleged drunk driver and a Boston police officer on traffic detail after a Celtics game left an imprint of the officer's body in the rock salt residue on the driver's car.

An Everett woman was arrested near TD Garden on Christmas Day after Boston Police said she intentionally drove into an officer working a traffic detail after the Celtics game.

At 8:02 p.m. on Dec. 25, an officer on a traffic detail on Beverly Street at Valenti Way radioed in to report she was hit by a black Audi sedan, according to a Boston Police report obtained by MassLive.

The impact of the crash was strong enough to leave an imprint of the officer’s body in the rock salt residue on the sedan, according to the report. The officer was brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the department said.

The driver of the sedan, later identified as Jeanette Valle, 28, of Everett, did not stop after hitting the police officer and continued driving the wrong direction on Beverly towards Causeway Street, according to the report.

Valle then turned the wrong way onto Canal Street, a one-way road, the officer reported. Police found her stopped at a red light on North Washington Street off of Causeway.

An officer pulled her cruiser up next to Valle, stepped out and ordered Valle to turn off her car and get out, the department said.

Valle ignored the officer’s commands and sped away, taking a right on Commercial Street, where another officer caught up with her and turned on his cruiser’s emergency lights.

Valle tried to get away by swerving through the opposite lanes in moving traffic, the department said. The officer turned off their lights for Valle and the public’s safety, and continued to monitor Valle’s driving from a distance, according to the report.

Valle finally stopped at the intersection of Surface Road and Milk Street after she hit the curb on the right and popped both tires on her passenger side, the department said.

As she tried to flee, officers said Valle ran multiple red lights, drove in the bike lane and on the other side of the road, and nearly caused several crashes, according to the police report.

Police said there was a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from Valle and that she was slurring her speech, according to the report. She was handcuffed and placed under arrest, charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.

However, when the police tried to conduct a search on Valle, the 28-year-old kicked an officer in the shin and struggled as she was put into a cruiser, the department said.

Valle faces a slew of charges and citations in connection with the incident. She has previously had an “immediate threat form” filed against her and her license revoked, according to the police report.

Valle’s full list of charges are: two charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one each for her car and her foot; two charges of assault and battery on a police officer; operating under the influence of alcohol; failure to stop for police; leaving the scene of personal injury; leaving the scene of property damage, and negligent and reckless operations of a motor vehicle.

Later, a man came into the Boston Police Department to report he was also hit by Valle while he was stopped at a red light in his 2018 Toyota Camry on Beverly Street and Valenti Way.

Though he was not injured, the man filled out a hit-and-run report related to the incident, the department said.
