A good Samaritan is credited with helping two injured deputies when they were attacked by an enraged “naked male,” according to investigators in eastern North Carolina.
Details of the deputies’ injuries have not been disclosed, but they have since been released from the hospital, the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office said in a Feb. 19 news release.
The attack happened early Wednesday, Feb. 19, near Kinston, when the deputies responded to what they believed was a domestic dispute involving a man identified as Stacy Lashone Kinsey.
“A caller (reported) that a naked male subject — Kinsey — was outside of a residence threatening to assault the caller and her children, (who) were also his children. Dispatch further advised that Kinsey had entered two other residences in the area without consent,” the sheriff’s office said.
“When deputies arrived ... Kinsey physically attacked two deputies by striking them in the head and face with a closed fist,” the sheriff’s office said. “A good Samaritan assisted the deputies and helped take Kinsey into custody.”
It was discovered the 50-year-old suspect had been holding the “pregnant victim and the children against their will and threatened them with a firearm,” officials said.
“The victim was eventually able to escape the residence and run to a neighbor’s home for help. Kinsey entered two residences in the area while trying to find the victim,” the sheriff’s office said.
The suspect, a convicted felon, has been charged with:
- felony count of first-degree kidnapping
- felony count of possessing a firearm by a convicted felon
- two felony counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer inflicting physical injury
- three misdemeanor counts of resisting a public officer
- one count of domestic violence
- one count of battery against an unborn child
- one count of assault by pointing a gun
- one misdemeanor count of breaking and entering
“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the Good Samaritan who provided a helping hand to the deputies in making the arrest this morning,” Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers said in the news release.
Kinston is about an 80-mile drive southeast from Raleigh.
