Watch Dad Use Excavator to Attack Vt. Troopers Arresting Son

June 23, 2022
When Vermont State Police troopers tried to take his son into custody, a father in Hardwick got behind the controls of an excavator to swing the scoop at troopers in a wild attack caught on video.

Vermont State Police troopers were attacked by a man who used an excavator to try to stop authorities from taking his son into custody.

The incident happened June 14 when troopers tried to apprehend Brandon Tallman, 24, at his parents' house in Hardwick, WPTZ-TV reports. Tallman had been arrested two days earlier after an altercation at a Woodbury home.

While police tried to bring Tallman in a second time, his father—Wayne Tallman, 52—took control of an excavator outside the house and began swinging the arm and scoop at the two troopers at the scene. In video footage of the incidents, the troopers are seen trying to avoid the piece of heavy equipment as the elder Tallman moves it in an erratic and jerky fashion.

As they try to keep out of the way of the excavator, troopers also are struggling with both Brandon Tallman and his mother, Amy, 48.

Finally, the troopers were able to remove Wayne Tallman from the excavator's controls and put him under arrest. He was charged with aggravated assault on a protected official, resisting arrest, impeding and reckless endangerment. Amy Tallman also was cited with impeding an officer in the incident.
