Bus Set on Fire as LAPD Faces Rowdy Crowds for Dodgers' World Series Win

Oct. 31, 2024
Projectiles were thrown at LAPD officers, and a Metro bus was set on fire as fans took to the street to celebrate the Los Angeles Dodgers' victory over the New York Yankees in the World Series.

A bus was set on fire in Los Angeles and a dozen people were arrested after the Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday.

Fans celebrated the Dodgers' 7-6 victory by flooding city streets and igniting fireworks, KTLA-TV reports. In some cases, drivers performed doughnuts and other stunts in parking lots and intersections.

Shortly before 10 p.m., the LAPD declared the gathering unlawful and tried to disperse the crowd. Rocks, bottles and other projectiles were thrown at police, and looters broke windows and boosted merchandise from a shoe store.

A crowd in the Echo Park neighborhood vandalized a Metro bus, with some people climbing up on the roof of the public transit vehicle. The bus then was set on fire, and video from the scene shows flame engulfing the vehicle.

Even though a tactical alert had been lifted, police were still patrolling Echo Park on Thursday morning.

Police made 12 arrests stemming from the celebration. No injuries were reported.
