BOSTON — Boston police rushed ballots to polling places in Hyde Park, West Roxbury, and Roslindale so people can vote before it’s too late.
“We instructed Boston police to send police cruisers with lights on for reports of ballots running out or running low,” said Debora O’Malley, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s office. She added a staffer from her office has been sent to City Hall to help Boston deal with what appears to be heavy turnout.
O’Malley said the “priority” is for everyone to vote who wants to before the polls close.
“We put ballots in police cruisers to get them where they had to go,” she said, adding the office will double-back tomorrow to find out what went sideways.
The Boston Herald has also learned there are reports of “dim lights” at Cathedral High School in the South End where voters are using cellphones. The gym is “extremely dark” and only a “few lights are on,” said Councilor Ed Flynn.
“Although the poll workers are doing an exceptional job, we have had major problems throughout the city of Boston. lack of planning and leadership from the Elections Department,” said Councilor Ed Flynn.
A spokeswoman for Boston Mayor Michelle Wu was not immediately available.
