Idaho Technology Inc. developed the RAZOR Instrument -- a 9.1-pound, hand-portable, filed hardened, biological agent identifier designed originally for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). It simultaneously tests up to 12 samples in less than 30 minutes, and performs five runs on one battery charge. The RAZOR uses freeze-dried reagents in a thin-film plastic pouch format as reaction containers. Samples are loaded into the pouches with syringes, requiring no measurement and minimal operator setup. The instrument automatically determines positives and negatives and displays results on a built in LCD display.
