A Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper jumped into action Monday to rescue a woman and an infant from a submerged vehicle.
Trooper Matt White received a call on Monday around 1:20 p.m. about a vehicle submerged in a body of water, according to a news release.
White responded to the scene and began wading out to the vehicle when he began to sink from knee-deep water level to mid-chest level and slightly higher at times, almost instantly. He was able to remove pieces of his equipment and make it to the vehicle where he located a female driver slumped over the wheel and an infant child inside the vehicle.
The trooper was able to bust the side window of the vehicle to gain access. Officials said that both occupants were fine, but were scared and wet.
With the assistance of Oklahoma Turnpike Authority maintenance workers Patrick Goggin and Randy Pierce, White was able to removed the woman and the child from the vehicle and to safety where medical personnel were able to treat them.
Both the infant and the woman were transported to Edmond Integris hospital for treatment.
What caused the vehicle to leave the road and go into the water remains under investigation.
