The Reality of Off-Duty Firearms

Oct. 1, 2019
Please take our 9-question multiple choice survey to assist us with gathering information on today's most commonly carried off-duty weapons.

If you’re a “gun guy,” (or lady) you’ve heard the argument about 9mm and .45ACP more times than you can think, you know people who are “so old” they used to carry a revolver and there’s always that one guy who can tell you why he carries a full-size combat weapon system handgun off-duty. You’ve heard discussions about the pros and cons of .40S&W and why the .380ACP isn’t “a real defensive caliber.” After hearing all of that, and participating in such for years (to be honest), the question has to be asked: what do you actually carry as your off-duty weapon day in and day out?

My reality, as much as I’d like to say I carry my Springfield Armory Loaded 1911, is that I carry a Glock Model 43 9mm. Most of the time I even carry a spare magazine (or two). This isn’t about your Every Day Carry (EDC) as a complete list, but specifically, what is your most commonly carried off-duty firearm? And then the question begs, does the make and model matter as much?

We decided to create a short survey (it’s only 9 multiple choice questions) to see if we can identify the most common caliber, capacity and characteristics in off-duty weaponry. Yes, there is a question about manufacturer but not model. It should take you less than a minute to complete. No identifying information is asked other than the number of years of experience you have on the job.

Please visit this link to take our brief survey! And thank you in advance.
