The Worcester Police Department has confirmed an accidental discharge of an officer’s firearm inside the station.
No one was injured when the firearm went off inside the police station on Oct. 14, said Lt. Sean Murtha, a department spokesman.
As a result of an investigation, the officer was retrained on handling and storing his firearm, Murtha said.
Further information was not released by police. The department did not answer some questions asked by MassLive, including whether the officer has been disciplined.
MassLive has learned the officer involved is a newer member of the department and that the incident happened in a stall of the second-floor men’s locker room bathroom.
