Aug. 24, 2023
Two teens were arrested after a 27-year veteran Tacoma police detective was shot and wounded after police pulled over a vehicle that was driving erratically.

A veteran Washington police detective was shot and wounded during a traffic stop Wednesday.

Tacoma police stopped a vehicle that was driving erratically shortly before 2:30 p.m., the department stated in a news release. When police confronted the vehicle's occupants, the suspects began fleeing on foot and opened fire on the officers.

A detective was struck in the shoulder by one of the shots. The 27-year veteran of the department was rushed to hospital and is in stable condition.

Multiple law enforcement agencies searched the area for suspects in the shooting. A K-9 helped apprehend two teens—ages 14 and 15—just before 4:30 p.m., and they were charged with attempted murder.

The shooting is still under investigation.
