A Florida deputy was shot and wounded during "a lengthy standoff" that began early Wednesday after a suspect barricaded himself inside a vehicle.
The incident involving a Volusia County sheriff's deputy in a neighborhood in Deltona, the law enforcement agency stated in an update that was posted to social media at about 7:30 a.m. The deputy suffered a "non-life-threatening injury" when a gunman opened fire, and he's expected to recover.
Initially, the sheriff's office stated that the armed man barricaded himself in his vehicle, setting off "a lengthy standoff" with police. But the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported that the suspect was removed from a house that was the scene of the incident and taken into custody.
