According to the Secret Service, there was a "protective incident" involving former President Donald Trump, and shots were fired near his golf course in Palm Beach.

The shooting near former President Donald Trump’s golf club in Palm Beach “appears to be an attempted assassination,” according to the FBI.

In a statement Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Secret Service announced that there was a “protective incident” involving the former president shortly before 2 p.m. The statement also said the former president was safe.

The gunshots rang out near the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach. No injuries have been reported.

The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office has yet to release any additional information but said the sheriff will be holding a press conference.

Person in custody after shooting

Martin County Sheriff William D. Snyder told reporters that the agency detained a suspect in connection to the shooting. Officers saw the suspect’s vehicle on Interstate 95 and pulled over the driver.

The suspect, Snyder said, wasn’t armed when he was in custody. The FBI, Secret Service and Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office are on the scene, which shut down stretches of I-95.
