Police Hunt for Gunman who Shot Ind. Deputy During Traffic Stop

A Blue Alert was issued for a 33-year-old man who is accused of opening fire and shooting an Orange County sheriff's deputy during a traffic stop in West Baden.

Indiana authorities are searching for a suspected wanted in connection with shooting a deputy during a traffic stop Friday.

The shooting happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. when an Orange County sheriff's deputy pulled over Austin Schepers, 33, in West Baden, WANE-TV reports. It's unclear why the deputy was stopping Schepers.

When Schepers was ordered to exit his vehicle, he came out firing. The deputy was struck, and Schepers fled.

Medics rushed the deputy to the hospital, but no details were released about the deputy's condition or the extent of the injuries.

A Blue Alert was issued for Schepers, and he was last seen shortly before 1 a.m. in a vehicle with another individual.
