SMYRNA, Ga. – Jun 20, 2019 - GLOCK, Inc. is pleased to announce the transition of Allentown Police Department in Pennsylvania to GLOCK.
With a population over 120K, Allentown, Pennsylvania is the 3rd largest city in Pennsylvania and also houses the Allentown Police Academy, which supports the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Over 2,850 officers from 187 different municipalities have been trained at the Allentown Police Academy.
Allentown Police Department has transitioned to the GLOCK 19 Gen5 after extensive testing and evaluation to replace their previous Sig Sauer pistols. Allentown Police Department has been with Sig Sauer since 1995 prior to transitioning to GLOCK.
“Our old service firearm was heavy, outdated and became difficult to train with so we researched alternatives,” said Chief of Police, Tony Alsleben. “Glock consistently scored the highest reviews among our law enforcement partners. We were beyond thrilled with the results. Our qualification scores increased exponentially and our officers quickly became proficient with the GLOCK. Feedback from our officers has been 100% positive. I highly recommend this firearm for all law enforcement agencies,” Chief Alsleben continued.
The Gen5 pistols are a variation of the M pistol selected by the FBI. GLOCK combined the historical reliability and trust in the brand with precisely engineered design changes to meet the demand of consumers world-wide. Among the design enhancements are the GLOCK Marksman Barrel (GMB), which delivers increased accuracy with enhanced polygonal rifling and an improved barrel crown, the removal of finger grooves, an ambidextrous slide-stop lever for better versatility and control, and an nDLC finish which is exclusive to the GLOCK manufacturing process.
Really what it comes down to is that Glock produces reliable, efficient, effective, and user friendly product,” said Officer Michael Yetter, Training Officer with the Allentown Police Academy. “I believe that GLOCK is one of the most Law Enforcement friendly companies that I have had the pleasure in dealing with.” Officer Yetter has begun using the GLOCK 19 Gen5 at the Academy and has seen an increase in qualification scores since transitioning to GLOCK. “The same shooters that had lower qualifications with the previous pistols are now shooting near perfect scores, many as first time GLOCK shooters.” Said Yetter.
“GLOCK is excited to welcome the men and women of Allentown PD to the growing GLOCK family and values the trust they have placed in our pistols,” said GLOCK, Inc. VP Josh Dorsey. “We recognize the time and effort they have placed on evaluating what pistol is the best choice for the agency and could not be more grateful for the partnership. We look forward to providing continued customer service and support to those who go into harm’s way.”
