Accused Gunman Opens Fire at Milwaukee Police Station

Officers shot and wounded a 23-year-old man who allegedly began shooting in the lobby of the Milwaukee Police Department's District 5 station, days after a suspect died in a holding cell there.

A gunman was wounded after he opened fire on a Milwaukee police station late last week.

The shooting happened at around 3 p.m. Friday at the Milwaukee Police Department's District 5 station, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. According to police, a 23-year-old man entered the station's lobby and began shooting.

When an officer returned fire, the suspect fled the station. More officers pursued the accused gunman, and they shot and wounded the suspect multiple times.

The man was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening. No officers or bystanders were injured in the incident.

The shooting happened days after a 20-year-old suspect died in a holding cell at the station Wednesday. Police are unsure if there is a connection between the two incidents, and investigators are exploring that possibility.

"We are still looking into all angles of this," said Chief Jeffrey Norman

Seven officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave in compliance with departmental policy, and the West Allis Police Department is investigating. Three officers have been suspended in connection with the death of a suspect in a holding cell.
