A late night shooting Sunday in Phoenix left three people dead, including the suspected gunman, and two police officers wounded, according to officials.

Phoenix police responded to the scene around 8:45 p.m. and two officers were met with gunfire, Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams said at a press conference.

The officers fired back, and the suspect retreated.

The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, was later found dead, Williams said. It’s unclear how they died and a spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment from the Daily News Monday.

Two citizens were found dead and several others were hospitalized with injuries. Two officers were also wounded.

“Thankfully, those two officers are recovering and are talking,” Williams said. “So they’re in good spirits.”

None of the victims have been identified.

“This is another example of gun violence in our community. This is another example of gun violence in our country. This is why the Phoenix Police Department is focused on identifying, arresting and bringing to justice those individuals who commit gun violence,” Williams said.

“How many more officers have to be shot? How many more community members have to be killed before our community takes a stand. This is not a Phoenix police issue. This is a community issue. If not now, when?”
