SAN JOSE — An off-duty San Jose police officer was shot at while driving to work on Highway 101 on Tuesday afternoon, with a bullet hitting the officer’s personal vehicle as it approached Highway 85, authorities say.
The unnamed officer was heading north on Highway 101 in a pickup truck and approaching the freeway connector south of San Jose at about 1:40 p.m. when the gunfire occurred, according to San Jose police.
The truck was hit in the right-front passenger door, near the door handle. No one was injured, and it was not immediately clear what motivated the shooting.
Police said a portion of northbound Highway 101 near the shooting site was closed to traffic to allow for investigators from the California Highway Patrol’s Hollister-Gilroy division to examine the scene. Additional details were not immediately available.
