An armed man was fatally shot in gun battle with Illinois police after officers confronted the individual while he was trying to break in to a relative's home last week.

The incident, which was captured by Zion Police Department body and dashboard cameras, happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Thursday, WBBM-TV reports. A woman contacted police after a relative—George Franklin, 47who she had an order of protection against tried to get into her house.

When two officers reached the scene, they found Franklin at the home's back door and began talking with him. That's when Franklin drew a gun and pointed it at the officers.

Police ordered Franklin to drop his weapon, but he refused. He then began shooting at two officers and fled on foot for about a block.

A third officer caught up with Franklin, and the suspect was shot. Life-saving efforts were performed on Franklin at the scene, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.
