A gunman was fatally shot by police officers after a violent spree in Texas that left one dead and three more wounded.
The violence kicked off Wednesday night alongside a road in Baytown around 6:30 p.m.
Baytown police Lt. Steve Dorris said the gunman got into an argument with a man and a woman still inside their vehicle before he started shooting. The man died from a gunshot wound to the head while the woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
In the wake of the gunfire, another woman — who was driving by to meet up with a friend some 10 minutes down the road — pulled over to see what had just happened. She, too, was shot by the gunman, who then fled the scene. Dorris said a short time later, he got into an argument with another man that was unrelated to the initial shooting, and then shot him too.
He was critically injured and airlifted to a Houston-area hospital.
The suspect, from there, returned to the site of the initial shooting, where he engaged in a shootout with law enforcement. Dorris said he was killed in the exchange.
It’s unclear whether the man knew any of the victims. Authorities have not identified anyone involved
Dorris said the investigation, which is “very complex” and involving multiple crime scenes, is ongoing.
