An Omaha police officer opened fire on a 31-year-old man who drove through a barricaded Halloween event in a residential neighborhood, wounding the man in the jaw and shoulders.

A Nebraska police officer shot a driver who "recklessly" barreled through a barricaded Halloween event Monday.

Omaha police officers were handing out candy at a trick-or-treating event in a residential neighborhood when the incident happened, ABC News reports. After about 7 p.m., a 31-year-old man was seen "driving recklessly" in the wrong direction and had his headlights turned off.

An officer blocked the path of the car and ordered the officer to stop. When the driver kept advancing, the officer fired seven times at the vehicle.

The car stopped following the shooting, and the man was struck three times. He was wounded in the jaw and both shoulders.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Once at the hospital, he was stabilized, and his injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

No one else was injured in the incident.

"People were diving out of the way and they were getting out of the way, but it didn't look like they were being targeted," said Police Chief Todd Schmaderer, adding that police are still trying to determine a motive.

Investigators are trying to determine if the driver was impaired at the time of the incident.

"It did appear that he was under the influence of something from the body-worn camera, but we don't have toxicology reports back," added Schmaderer.
