Wis. Police Fatally Shoot Suspect who Opens Fire on Officers

Police officers from Racine, Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant were involved in a shootout with a 38-year-old man who fled a traffic stop on foot before opening fire.
Wisconsin police fatally shot a man who opened fire at officers early Monday.
Mount Pleasant police responded to a domestic disturbance involving gunshots shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice. At about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Racine police pulled over a vehicle, and the driver jumped from the car and fled officers on foot.
The suspect—later identified as Timothy Burgess, 38—hid in tall grass on the side of the road in Racine. Police ordered Burgess to surrender, but he refused.
Officers began approaching Burgess, who began shooting at police. A gunfight ensued, and Burgess was fatally struck.
The shooting involved police officers from Racine, as well as Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant. A firearm was recovered from Burgess and the Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the shooting.
