An Ohio police officer was critically wounded in a shootout Wednesday with a suspected armed robber, who was killed in the incident.
The shooting happened when Columbus police responded to a call concerning an armed robbery in a shopping center parking lot, WBNS-TV reports. When officers reached the scene, they immediately exchanged gunfire with a suspect.
An officer and the suspect were struck at least once during the shootout. They were both rushed to the hospital, where the suspect later died.
The officer was initially in critical condition when he reached the hospital. His condition has improved.
Police arrested a person at the scene, but it's unclear how that individual is involved in the shooting or initial call. Multiple guns also were recovered by police.
The shooting is being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
