Conn. Police Officer Shot in Leg in Shootout with Gunman
An armed suspect was fatally shot after gunfire erupted while West Haven police were investigating a call at an apartment building, wounding an officer in the leg.
A Connecticut police officer was shot in the leg in a shootout with a suspect early Friday.
The incident happened shortly before 2 a.m. when West Haven police responded to a call at an apartment building, WFSB-TV reports. Shots were fired while police were investigating the call, and an officer was shot and wounded in the leg.
Another officer returned fire, and the suspect was struck. CPR was administered at the scene, and the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The wounded officer also was rushed to the hospital. The officer is expected to recover.
