Houston Police Officer Shot while Responding to Home Invasion

A Houston police officer was rushed to the hospital after being shot and wounded while responding to a home invasion in the city's Spring Branch neighborhood.

A Houston police officer was shot and wounded while responding to a home invasion Tuesday.

The shooting happened shortly before 10 a.m. when the officer reached the scene of the reported the incident in the city's Spring Branch neighborhood, KHOU-TV reports. Shots were fired, and the officer was struck.

The officer was taken to the hospital, but no details have been released concerning the officer's condition or the nature of the injuries. Two people have been detained, and police are searching for a third.

“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our brave first responders who put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe," Mayor John Whitmire said in a statement. "Your dedication and sacrifice do not go unnoticed."
