An Arizona police officer was shot and wounded during a traffic stop Tuesday.
The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. as Tempe police made a stop to try to apprehend a suspect in an aggravated assault, KNXV-TV reports. Once officers pulled the suspect over, the man started shooting, and police returned fire.
An officer was struck in the arm in the exchange and rush to the hospital. The officer has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
The suspect was fatally shot by police. No other details were released concerning the shooting and the initial assault leading to the traffic stop.
The shooting is under investigation.
