A Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a suspect were both shot after exchanging gunfire in east Fort Collins on Monday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m. Monday, two LCSO deputies attempted to stop an off-road motorcycle for traffic violations in Fort Collins, according to a news release. The adult man refused to stop, driving onto the bike path in Edora Park in east Fort Collins; the deputies, who were on agency motorcycles, followed him into the park.
While in the park the suspect got off the motorcycle and exchanged gunfire with the deputies, according to the release. During this the man fell to the ground and did not comply with deputy commands. Due to his proximity to his gun, deputies formed a contact team and deployed a K9 to pull him away from the gun, according to the release.
Law enforcement officers provided first aid until the man could be transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. One deputy was also shot in the incident, and was transported to an area hospital and is recovering, according to the release; no other injuries were reported.
