Police in West Valley City, Utah say that a group of suspects coordinated a drive-by shooting targeting officers waiting to execute a search warrant at a hotel.

Officers originally responded to the Sleep Inn near 3400 S. Decker Lake Dr. in West Valley City Wednesday evening to a report of a man pointing a weapon at another man during an argument, according to KUTV.

The officers were able to locate the suspect's room, but nobody answered the door. They then set up containment in the hallway outside the room and on the west side of the hotel, which sits near I-215.

"While those officers were around setting up containment a car drove by on the on-ramp on to I-215 and fired multiple shots at these officers," West Valley City Police spokesperson Roxeanne Vainuku told the news station.

The bullets didn't hit the officers and the suspects quickly fled the scene. Investigators concluded that the people inside the hotel room coordinated the attack.

"We recovered some evidence that showed at least one person in the room was conspiring with the shooter," Vainuku said.

After executing the warrant, police arrested three people from inside the hotel room. Ghufren Al-Bander, 21, was booked for aggravated assault on a police officer, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and obstruction of justice, among other charges. Danial Movahhed, 28, was booked for aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and brandishing a firearm. Lenard Cortez, 22, was booked on outstanding warrants.

Investigators have not released information about the other suspects who are believed to have shot at the officers and are currently being sought.
