SHENANDOAH COUNTY, Virginia -- Newly released body camera video from an incident earlier this year shows deputies in Shenandoah County, Virginia take down a man armed with a knife.

Deputies Erin Brogan, Timothy Wakeman and John Armentrout stood with guns drawn, just feet from Corbyn Lee Rush, ordering him to drop the weapon, according to The Northern Virginia Daily.

Rush was seen in the video wandering about unsteadily, telling the deputies to 'just kill me."

One deputy tell the man, "Just calm down, Corbyn."

Officers then attempt to use a Taser on Rush, but he is unfazed and, as he reaches to pluck prong from his body, he drops the knife. The deputies ran toward Rush and quickly pulled him to the ground before handcuffing him.

Last week, a Shenandoah County jury acquitted Rush of three counts of assault on a law enforcement officer seven months after the incident occurred.

Assistant Public Defender Peter McDermott said the body camera footage showed his client did not intend to harm the deputies or make them feel fear.

"He had a knife in his hand and was walking around screaming he wanted them to kill him," McDermott said.

He went on to praise the law enforcement officers who responded for not escalating the confrontation. "The officers did a great job in not allowing anyone to get hurt and should be commended for their restraint," he said.
