Authorities have arrested Israel Alvarez in the hit-and-run death of Officer David Fahey who was helping direct traffic Tuesday morning.

Police have arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run death of a Cleveland police officer who was directing traffic Tuesday morning.

Israel Alvarez was taken into custody in Lorain with the same handcuffs that hung from Officer David Fahey's belt as he was struck and killed while laying flares at the scene of an earlier crash on Interstate 90, according to WEWS-TV.

"It means a lot to law enforcement and family that the suspect, the alleged suspect, not even alleged, was placed in Dave's handcuffs," Cleveland Police Union President, Steve Loomis told the news station.

Multiple law enforcement agencies blocked off East 31st Street in Lorain after finding the white Camry that struck and killed Fahey in the driveway of a home. Officials say that the 44-year-old suspect eventually come out on his own with his hands up.

Investigators are working with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's office to determine the charges against the suspect.
