U.S. Border Patrol Agent Wounded, Suspect Dead Following Shooting During Traffic Stop
BRACKETTVILLE, Texas -- A Border Patrol agent was wounded and a suspect is dead following a shooting Friday night.
Two agents from the Brackettville Border Patrol Station were conducting a traffic stop on Ranch Road 674 around 8 p.m. when a 25-year-old male passenger fired a weapon at the agents, striking one of them, according to The San Angelo Standard-Times.
The other agent and a Kinney County Sheriff's Office deputy returned fire, fatally wounding the gunman.
"Agents secured the scene, requested medical assistance, and rendered first aid. EMS arrived on scene shortly thereafter," according to a news release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
The driver of the vehicle, a 32-year-old woman, was taken into custody. Officials said that both the man and woman are U.S. citizens.
The wounded agent was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the incident with assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility and Kinney County Sheriff’s Office.
