Two Texas Police Officers Killed in Ambush

McAllen, Texas -- Two McAllen police officers were shot and killed while responding to a call Saturday afternoon, The Monitor reported.
The outlet reported that the officers, who were identified as Edelmiro Garza and Ismael Chavez, were responding to a disturbance call in the area of Queta Avenue and 34th Street when they were ambushed and shot. A suspect at the scene was also shot, but their condition is unknown, according to The Monitor.
“We have lost two brave public servants who sought only to keep peace in our City,” Police Chief Victor Rodriguez told the outlet.
Lt. Christopher Olivarez, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, told The Monitor that the agency sent DPS troopers to the scene around 4:30 p.m.
Information about what led up to the shooting was not available.
Both Gov. Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton tweeted their condolences to the city and the police department, and said that they will provide the McAllen Police Department wany support it needs.
