Oregon Police Officer Shot; Search Underway for Suspects

SALEM, Oregon -- A Salem police officer was shot early Friday, and a search is underway for those responsible.
Salem police said the officer, who has not been publicly identified, is being treated at a hospital. He is expected to survive.
The officer was shot during an unspecified encounter near Mission Street Southeast and 17th Street, according to police.
The suspect or suspects in the shooting fled the scene, according to police. Officers are working to apprehend them, police said about 6:25 a.m.
Police said there’s no public threat.
Westbound Mission Street is closed between 22nd and 17th streets. Northbound 13th Street Southeast is also blocked at Hines Street.
No additional information about the shooting was immediately released. Police ask anyone near the shooting scene who may have heard or seen anything noteworthy to call 503-588-8477.
