Mississippi Deputy Fatally Shot, Another Wounded in Shootout

TERRY, Miss. — A Hinds Country Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot and another was wounded while responding to a domestic disturbance call Sunday evening.
Deputy Martin Shields Jr. and another deputy got into a shootout with the suspect at the residence on 15323 Midway Road in Terry, according to Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones.
Shields, 37, had been on the force for 9 months but had worked in law enforcement previously. Jones told reporters that he had been with the slain deputy at an earlier call when the call came in.
The suspect's wife and another woman were shot while trying to leave the scene and were transported to University of Mississippi Medical Center for treatment.
A man was found dead inside the home, identified as 42-year-old Eric Brown, believed to be the suspect, according to WAPT-TV.
