Shooter Detection Systems Collaborates with DHS in Mock Active Shooter / Terrorist Event
ROWLEY, MA (PRWEB) AUGUST 20, 2015 - Shooter Detection Systems LLC (SDS), the world leader in indoor gunshot detection technology, today announced that it completed a successful tactical training exercise involving a Mock Active Shooter/Terrorist Event at a synagogue in West Orange, New Jersey. SDS was invited by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to participate for the second time using the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System to deploy first responders to various scenarios. In 2014, SDS participated in a DHS-sponsored school safety exercise utilizing Guardian to alert first responders to a mock live fire active shooter event.
The training exercise focused on a simulated, tactical exercise of a terrorist event involving IED events, hostage scenarios and an active shooting at the synagogue. The training exercise was attended by hundreds of police and other first responders from the Federal, State and Local level. First responders participating in the event were able to see how reaction times to an active shooter event can be accelerated through the deployment of technologies such as Shooter Detection Systems’ Guardian system.
During the exercise, SDS demonstrated the life-saving potential of the Guardian Indoor Active Shooter Detection System by accurately detecting gunshots and providing precise location information to the first responders within a second of the first shot. This scenario was rerun multiple times, allowing the Federal, State and Local Police teams to refine their tactics in locating and subduing the shooter.
Following the training exercise, Christian Connors, Chief Executive Officer at Shooter Detection Systems stated, “Gun violence in schools and other public venues remains one of the most pressing issues facing our country today. While no technology can eliminate these types of tragedies from occurring, the deployment of technology such as Guardian will drastically improve the response times of first responders, and will immediately allow building occupants to make timely, informed decisions, which will ultimately save innocent lives. We are thankful to the Department of Homeland Security for conducting this exercise, as we believe it sheds light on the efforts being done to combat these senseless acts of violence.”
"From a first responder's standpoint, the Guardian System provides first-hand intelligence to significantly reduce response time and assist us in ending active shooter incidents in a timely manner," said Scott Smarsh, Police Officer, West Orange, New Jersey Police Department.
